About This Game Based on the sci-fi short story by Philip K. Dick, The Great C is a cinematic narrative set in the aftermath of an apocalyptic event. Featuring a thrilling storyline, stunning environments and a powerful soundtrack, the viewer is transported to a desolate landscape in which the remnants of humanity are ruled by an all-powerful supercomputer known as the Great C. Each year, the nearby village is forced to send a young person on a pilgrimage to appease the mysterious machine, a journey from which no one ever returns. The Great C follows Clare, a young woman who finds her life upended when her fiancé is summoned for this year’s pilgrimage. Leaving the safe confines of her village, Clare must decide whether to accept the rules of her harsh society or fight against the oppressive powers that created it. The Great C is a sweeping 30+ minute experience, developed from the ground up to push the boundaries of storytelling in VR. This just didn't quite pull it off. But I applaud the willingness to try and don't regret my purchase.- The sequence with the two humans trying to escape tentacle lady (esp when separated on opposite sides of the stairs) really shows the potential of the VR perspective vs pancake land.- Other scenes where the tank and plane wrecks really feel large thanks to the VR perspective too. Invasion and Cairo's Egg were far better but a different genre and I had hoped this would be a good "serious" compliment, esp given the source material. Nope.Aside from RTS games, I've never been a fan of "diorama view" which is what this is in "cinematic". From the Steam preview videos and screenshots, I didn't realize that. As WinterWarrior3 notes, the scale feels off. At least I didn't have any queasiness from the camera movement, that was well handled. The "tracked motion controllers" are just used for reset view and a menu button not actual tracking or interactions.I don't know how much of this is the original story and how much is the adaption. But this was just lousy with fundamental inconsistencies. Not just incongruities but problems with the fundamental concepts of the plot.- When the town first refuses the tentacle lady, she immediately swells to monster size and ruthlessly wipes out the whole town except one boy to tell the tale. But later, when the husband waivers in compliance she's resigned and almost sympathetic. Then when he and Clair run, tentacle lady barely manages to chase them through a building or two and only kills the husband and "walks" away.-- It's implied later that tentacle lady has grown tired of the killing but we don't see that change occur so it has no emotional impact.- As proof of their rejection of technology, the humans have to... stockpile it for yearly offerings???- The Great Computer is super dumb in just casually allowing a gun to be so obviously carried right up to it by an enemy. Esp given the tech imbalance. And it doesn't keep so much as a microphone on to watch it's one super solider that is it's only actual physical means of control???- There's been enough time for the all the buildings and cars to decay before the 1st scene. Then the boy grows into an old man. So it's been decades at least and potentially centuries since the fall. But lights and jukeboxes in the uninhabited city ruins still work. Window signs aren't faded (UV from sunlight is killer over decades). And random canned food is still fresh.. Interesting experience. It was like watching an live puppet animation, at least that was for me. It was very good.. Using an iPhone for the first time.Driving a Tesla for the first time. There are times when you can just FEEL you're experiencing the future. The Great C is one of those times.. A little bit of a generic story, but told in a fantastic way, with beautiful environments and great production values. Well worth watching, and I can only hope that there will be more story telling like this in the future.. really engaging short story, highly recommended.. this also is a forum post:)I have a Pimax 5k+ and at first I have been wondering if my VR headset (and incompatible game) may be the cause for the totally messed up world scale.Turns out, it is not...........The different world scale that changes like within seconds all the time from high to low (while the camera is moving ("""zooming""") is completely distracting and the whole experience is a dissapointment. At first I have been thinking it's the style of the experience. Little human in front of a huge world war tank. But then the camera moved and suddenly the little human were bigger than me.Then these "little human" were sitting in a boat and they suddenly looked huge up close.Only to have them scaled back to tiny puppets from another camera further away from the boat.I have no idea how to enjoy this! It makes no sense!!!! Camera zoom/movement is NOT to be done by scaling the world up and down.It is not only the world scale alone, even the objects/props in the scenes are absolutely not to scale to each other and it's too obvious to see.To me, this experience is a complete disaster and I'd ask to refund if I haven't bought the game weeks or months ago.I can't even be bothered to finish it.Out of my 200+ VR games I have never seen any VR experience with such flaw o_O. Like all technology its important to know what the technology is good at doing and how this measures up with what you are using it for. VR in its current phase of development is good at a few things and this movie makes great use of them becauseits a seated non interactive movie.Because its a movie you dont have to worry about navigation, movement or figure out what you can and cant touch. This striaght away allows you to focus on whats around you and the story. The camera mostly points at a fixed point in each scnene and the scenes move along at a good pace, keeping it interesting. You can choose an option at the start to allow some cinematic panning and zooming (which may cause a litle sickness for those that suffer from it). This was my preferred option and it was nice to see this "no go" VR feature implemented appropriately. If you switch it off it really doesnt take anything away from the experience. The graphics are excellent and rendered appropriately for the capacity of technology with lots of nice shading and animation. The story is really a matter of taste. The length of the movie is just enough for you to care about whats going on and see it through but not long enough to get boring. Again i think they got the balance just right. Which i think is really important for any VR experience just now.I watched this to try out my new vive pro wireles adaptor, sitting comfortably on a bean bag with a cup of tea and i can honestly say that if there were more of these films to choose from then i would seriously consider it as an alternative to netflix. Its not a game, its not meant to be, its also not the same as watching it on the flat screen. It is what it is... and for EUR4.99 its a bespoke piece of art thats fit for purpose.Enjoy it!. Overall, pretty good cinematic with good graphics and a decent storyline. Worth a watch if you've got half hour to spare 😊 Fixed: Audio/visual bug in Chapter 3: We fixed the issue that sometimes occurred in the Chamber scene of Chapter 3 where viewers would hear audio but not see any visuals..
